Prerequisite:

 

The Cell Manager must meet the following minimum requirements:

 

·          256 MB RAM (512 MB recommended).

·          For each parallel backup session 40 MB of RAM are required and 5 - 8 MB per data segment size. This means that, for example, if you want to run 60 parallel backup sessions 3 GB of RAM plus 512 MB for data segments are needed.

·          300 - 425 MB of disk space + approximately 2% of planned data to be backed up (for use by the IDB).

·          If the version of libstdc++ on the system is not 5 (for example libstdc++.so.6 instead of libstdc++.so.5) you need to install the compatibility package compat-2004 or compat-libstdc++.

·          To install the Java GUI Server on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0, the libstdc++-4.0.2-8.fc4.x86_64.rpm package is required. If yours system does not already contain a 64-bit version of libstdc++. so. 5 then you must install it with libstdc++-3.3.3-7.x86_64.rpm.

·          Requirements for viewing online Help on the Data Protector Cell Manager are the same as on Data Protector clients. For Java GUI Client, Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.5.0_06 or newer (for example, 1.5.0_07) is required.

·          Verify that sufficient disk space is available for IDB growth (create volume/partition)

·          Verify there is no other services is running in tcp port  5555” since this is HP DP omni service default port.      

 

Packages.

 

·          Verify “Crontab” Packages are installed in Cell manager.

·          Verify “Development Libraries” packages are installed in cell manager.

·          Verify “xinetd” service should be running in cell manager.

·          mtx , mt –st packages should be enable in backup server for diagnosing backup or media related issues.

 

Approach.

 

1.     Install HP DP binary in cell manager server. Run the command ./omnisetup -CM -IS for installing HP DP software

2.     Open cell manager GUI “xomni” command after HP DP installation.

3.     Check Tape drive is detecting in managing server. By using command mtx .

4.     Auto Configure library in DP cell manager.

5.     Scan all the inserted media in magazine of the Library.

6.     Make Dedicated Media pool and Free pool.

7.     Format Media and import Media on that Dedicated Media Pool

8.     Rest of the Media Format and import to Free Pool.

9.     Configure Backup use dedicated backup Path and configure destination

10.   Make schedule on the Backup Policy

11.   Save the backup configuration.

12.   Check and Monitor the session.

13.   Check and monitor IDB session.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Procedure:

 

 

·          Insert a HP DP DVD or copy the HP DP 6.11 compressed binary in Server. Extract the compress tar.gz binary.

 

 

 

 

·         Go to uncompressed binary folder.

 

 

 

 

·         Run the command ./omnisetup -CM -IS for installing HP DP software.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         Once HP DP binary installed next step is to configure the root user id .bash_profile for accessing HP DP envoirnment variables and command.

 

 

 

 

·         Add the HP DP service in Linux startup service.

 

 

·         Verify that HP DP daemons are running (crs,mmd,rds) omnisv -status.

 

 

 

HP DP Post-installation Configuration.

·         Thru CLI execute command xomni.

·         Once HP DP GUI open Go to > Device and Media Context.

·         Expend the Environment> Devices by Host > Right Click on Host and configure the Tape Library and drive.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         Scan all the inserted Media in Magazine.

 

 

 

·         Make Media Pool as per Provided Policy. In the Scope Pane, expand Media, right-click Pools, and click Add Media Pool to open the wizard.

 

 

·         Make free media Pool. In the Scope Pane, expand Media, right-click Pools, and click Add Free Media Pool to open the wizard.

 

 

·         Now to add media to media pool. Right click on slot > select format and after format add to media pool.

 

 

 

 

 

Configuration of Backup policy

 

 

·         Select the Backup context in HP DP GUI context list. Right click the filesystem  > Add Backup > Select the Blank Filesystem Backup template and click OK.

 

·         Select the Backup client > Select the mount points which need to backup. Click Next

 

 

 

 

 

·         Select the backup device Click Next, click on Properties, Add destination Media pool Then add media and Ok to continue.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         Select None On the Option Tab

 

 

 

·         Add Schedule for Scheduling the Backup. Click Add then new window will appear then make the schedule as per Backup Policy, OK to continue.

 

·         To Monitor the Backup session, Click on Monitor tab in context Menu

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

·         To check the already backed up or Restore session , go to the main context menu and Click on the Internal database and then click on the session.

 

·         The completed session will show in the right of this window.

 

 

 

 

Backup Restoration

·         Go to main context menu and click on restore tab.

 

·         Select the Source Tab and check the boxes which need to be restored.

·         Browse the path of the restoration file need to be dumped.

 

·         Keep the option Default.

 

·         Select the device for the restoration.

·         Click on Restore Tab for restoring the data.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Licensing:

·         Open License .dat file in Notepad/wordpad.

·         Open main context menu and click on client.

 

·         Right click on data Protector Cell click on Add License .

·         Copy the license key from the wordpad/notepad and past it here. and add all the license key one by one. ok to continue.
